  this is currently my quarantine/hospital tank. It has black gravel with a layer of clear and blue marbles on top, some fake coral type things and another cave :) I also have a seperated area via a net breeder.

Vertebrate :: Betta :: Female
(Betta splendens)
Name: *still deciding
Behavior: playful but aggressive
Status: Sick
Status Comments: sick, she was showing signs of ick so i'm currently treating her with melafix and salt.

Vertebrate :: Betta :: Male
(Betta splendens)
Name: BUBBA
Size: 2 inches
Behavior: very aggressive
Comments: This is the only male betta that i have (and i think the only one that i'm going to get cuz i prefer the female ones, based on the fact that you can put them in a community tank :) ) he's a mean one, i tested him in the community tank and he didn't even last 10 minutes, he chased everyone around like he owned the place and tried to go up against my larger female betta (although he was first scared of her, i think he realized that she was female and decided to pick on her a bit :| )
Status: Sick
Status Comments: showing signs of some swim bladder problems and has ick on his fins :|

I also agree that Melafix isn't a good idea - not with ich, at least. It won't do anything as far as killing the parasites. Salt is a good idea, though, as is raising the temp. If you'd like to use a medication, I suggest finding something like Maracide, which is specifically for external parasites. Good luck!

I just had to treat my betta with ick about a month ago. all I did was increase the temp to 85 degrees (F), added salt, and preformed daily 20 percent water changes.
I've never use melafix as I've heard that it can be too strong for bettas. I generally use meds as a last resort.
